The $2.8-billion centerpiece of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority’s 300-acre South Terminal Complex program opened on time and under budget in fall 2022, despite the pandemic that depleted passenger revenue and disrupted supply chains. To meet the four-year timeline, the project team employed four alternative delivery methods: landside and airside construction management at-risk; a design-build-operate-maintain baggage team; design-bid-build award contracts and multiple design-build concession/tenant packages. A decision-tracking tool enabled the team to document and track decisions efficiently.
Flyers entering Orlando International Airport’s Terminal C might first notice the iconic prow at the entrance and the vivid experiential media exhibits. But the new structure isn’t just about form—it’s very much about function. The 1.3-million-sq-ft terminal incorporates firsts for U.S. airports: technologies such as 100% total virtual ramp control; 100% advanced automated screening lanes; 100% facial recognition “e-gates;” a “Bags First” design and a 100% trackable baggage system.
The terminal is certified as one of the first LEED v4 airport campuses in the U.S., with a design that provides 25.6% energy cost-savings over the latest ASHRAE 90.1-2010 standard.
The airport now can serve an additional 12 million passengers annually, generating an economic impact of $5.6 billion.

Topping Out Event Ceremony
Heavily involved as an Associate Architect in the GOAA (BP-195) South Terminal C Phase 1X Airside Concourse design under Architect of Record HNTB, Miguel L. Martin, AIA was honored to attend the topping out event ceremony on behalf of Miguel A. Martin, AIA on December 14, 2023. MLM celebrated with many other dedicated firms as they hoisted the final beam on top of the structure during its construction.
This fast-tracked project has been an honor to work on, and we are so excited for additional things to come at GOAA!

South Carolina Airports Coalition 2023 DBE Outreach Event
Miguel A. Martin, AIA recently attended the South Carolina Airports Coalition 2023 DBE Outreach Event for Small Business Enterprises, Disadvantaged Business Enterprises, and Women-owned businesses.
This event hosts the SC Department of Transportation and multiple organizations in support of promoting minority and small business owners. It was a pleasure to meet representatives from Greenville Spartanburg International Airport, Columbia Metropolitan Airport, Myrtle Beach International Airport, and Charleston International Airport.

Run for the Angels 5k at
Orlando Executive Airport (ORL)
It was the first 5k for many of us, but not our last! MLM had a wonderful time at the Run for the Angels 5k in front of the Administration and U.S. Customs & Border Protection Building that MLM designed at the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority's Orlando Executive Airport (ORL). It was really fun running on an airport runway!
Join us next year for a wonderful cause! All proceeds from the event benefit Angel Flight South East and their mission to arrange free flights so that children and adults can have access to the far from home doctors that can save their lives.

He is incredibly thorough and detailed in helping make sure the clients get what they paid for, and their buildings are built per design drawings and specifications. Community Spotlight: Arbor School of Central Florida 20th Anniversary and Annual Fundraiser
It is not often we get to support teachers like they deserve, but MLM's decision to become a sponsor for the THE ARBOR SCHOOL OF CENTRAL FLORIDA INC's 20th Anniversary Celebration and Annual Fundraiser was a no-brainer. A K-12 school for students with special needs, the Arbor School of Central Florida has a lofty goal to build their capital campaign for a new forever home campus that is specially designed for students with special needs and therapeutic education including career transitions.

Unveiling of Orlando International Airport's world-class new South Terminal C (MCO)
As an Associate Architect of Record, MLM helped Orlando International Airport’s South Terminal C provide a uniquely Orlando Experience at the world’s 7th busiest airport. The nearly $3B new terminal investment boasts 15 additional gates, hold rooms, shops, ticketing and checkpoints, alleviating congestion and a better passenger experience designed to add capacity for 10-12M more passengers each year. Both architecturally beautiful and technologically futuristic ahead of its time, Orlando South Terminal C was designed to create the next generation of a new Orlando experience. Natural light floods in through the skylights that run up the center of the structure, giving it a modern, airy feel as soon as you enter the building. The integration of architectural features, aesthetics, and amenities highlight Orlando’s central elements: the sky, gardens and water. Inside the 250,838-square-meter terminal, interactive screens display images of the region, allowing visitors to experience Central Florida in an interactive way.
MLM-Martin Architects, Inc. is incredibly proud to have worked with an amazing group of people for this spectacular project. We are so excited to help unveil this project after 7 years of hard work.
