ENGINEERING NEWS-RECORD BEST AIRPORT / TRANSIT - ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TERMINAL C, 2024

Project: ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT SOUTH TERMINAL COMPLEX, Orlando, Florida | 2024

Client: Greater Orlando Aviation Authority

Design Architects: Fentress Architects

Architect of Record: HNTB Corporation

Associate Architects: Baker Barrios, MLM-Martin Architects, Inc., Rhodes + Brito Architects, Inc.

General Contractors (CMAR): Hensel Phelps; Turner Construction Co.
Structural Engineer: C&S Engineers
Airfield Civil Engineer: Kimley-Horn
Landside Civil Engineer: Atkins

Electrical Engineer: Matern Professional Engineering

The $2.8-billion centerpiece of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority’s 300-acre South Terminal Complex program opened on time and under budget in fall 2022, despite the pandemic that depleted passenger revenue and disrupted supply chains. To meet the four-year timeline, the project team employed four alternative delivery methods: landside and airside construction management at-risk; a design-build-operate-maintain baggage team; design-bid-build award contracts and multiple design-build concession/tenant packages. A decision-tracking tool enabled the team to document and track decisions efficiently.
